6 Great Things You Can Do To Deepen Your Marriage

To deepen your marriage, you should set long-term goals together, talk about your personalities and work on them, listen without interrupting, tell your kids to give you time off, do chores together, and recreate fond memories.

Marriage, as in every relationship, is something that has to be cultivated and nurtured. Both partners should not take marriage for granted because it will not flourish on its own. One of the most essential pieces of marriage advice for men is that they should devote enough of their time and effort to their marriage. When men take time to express their love to their wives, they can expect their marriage to deepen over time. There are several ways on how men can do this, including:

Set long-term goals together

Spend time discussing your plans as a couple and as a family. Set realistic long term goals that both of you want to achieve and think of a time frame for accomplishing them. This will give your partner profound assurance that you really look forward to spending the future together. Also, you and your partner will have a common sense of direction for all your decisions.

Talk about your personalities and work on them

You and your spouse have unique personalities that may manifest in different character traits and behaviors. To help both of you understand your differences, take time to talk with each other about your personality and why you do the things that you do. Share what character traits you like about each other and which ones you like the least. You can spend a few minutes before bed or after waking up on this activity. List what both of you learn and work together on changing the negative aspects of your personalities and improving the good ones.

Listen without interrupting

If you have a habit of interrupting when your spouse is making a point, then you should work on improving your listening skills. Pay attention to what your partner is saying, but try hard not to give your opinion or make a comment until after your spouse is done talking. Remember to say your opinion tactfully.

Tell your kids to give you time off

Set aside a few minutes or an hour every day to spend quality time with your spouse, and tell your kids to respect this time. Ask your eldest child to watch over the younger children or find a babysitter to watch over your kids for a few hours every regularly. This way, you can enjoy a stress-free, bonding time with your spouse.

Do chores together

Even doing domestic chores like washing the dishes or doing laundry together can be made into quality time with your partner. It is a good way of showing your spouse you care enough to help, especially if your partner used to do these routines alone.

Recreate fond memories

Set aside a time to watch a movie you and your spouse enjoyed, buy tickets to a music show for a band you both loved or read a book that touched you back when you were dating. Recreating memories may help rekindle romance and will make your spouse feel special that you actually remember your time together from the past.

All in all, the success of a marriage will depend largely on the time and effort you invest as an individual and together as a couple.

7 Things Wives Need from Their Husbands to Stay Happy

Though not all women are the same, a wife usually wants her husband to be a good listener. She also wants regular reminders that she is loved and wanted, craves understanding, needs to feel appreciated, wants you to fulfill your share of responsibility with regards to your kids, needs you to take her out a date every now and then, and longs for occasional alone time.

When it comes to saving your marriage and keeping your relationship healthy, both you and your wife should do your part. Marriage is a give-and-take relationship and it is important that you are able to address her needs and her wants as much as you can to make her happy. Here are the things that a wife usually wants from her husband:

A good listener

Wives usually want their husbands to be good listeners. Aside from your wife’s friends, she needs someone to talk to about the things that go on in her life, at work or at home, with your kids, and her worries or concerns and achievements. Actively listen and pay attention so she knows you are with her every step of the way no matter what.

A reminder that she is loved and wanted

While you may feel like words are not enough to prove your love for your wife, saying sweet little things that remind her she is loved is what she wants. Say “I love you” when you mean it, not only when you are leaving for work, when going to bed, or after a phone conversation. Say it whenever you think it surprises her. Do not forget to admire her when she deserves it, especially when she looks great with her dress, when she looks nice with her new haircut, or just the way she is. Simple words of appreciation can make her really happy.

Understanding

Although understanding is more of a need than a want to get through relationships, women want to be understood more than you think. Women can get really difficult to deal with at times, and when that happens, all she wants from you is to understand why she acts the way she does. She wants you to forgive her for being complicated at times.

Appreciation

In as much as you do, your wife wants to be appreciated with the things she does. She wants to be complimented even with the little things she has accomplished, especially at home. Make her feel delighted for the great dinner she has cooked and for helping your kids get those good grades in school.
Fulfill your share of responsibility with regards to your kids
Kids need attention and discipline from both parents. If in case you are a little too lenient or a bit unconcerned when it comes to rearing your kids, she might want you to be a little bit more responsible. You are a couple, and she wants you to be her partner and discipline the kids when necessary and nurture them through play and quality time. Show her you are as concerned about the kids as she is and that you are doing something to fulfill your responsibility as a father.

A date every now and then

Now that you have a busier job and you have kids around, your time with your wife may not be the same as it was with much less distraction and responsibility. This is one thing she wants more from you now, more than ever. She wants to spend quality time with you. Perhaps a movie date or an occasional night out will make her happy.

Some alone time

It is not that she is tired of having you and your kids around. She just deserves a break from thinking about all the responsibilities at home so she does not get burdened and start feeling depressed . From time to time, she needs her own space and may want to spend it at the salon or spa, go shopping alone, or spend time with her friends.

There may be other things your wife may want from you, but before you can know what they are, talk to her about your relationship and ask if she is happy with her life. This way, you can both learn about each other’s needs and wants so you can both be happy and satisfied with your married life. After all, you both deserve a good life despite the storms that come and go.

An additional tip:
Do a bible study together or read a book. I find that this helps me feel closer to my husband.

Change of Plans Movie Review

The "Change of Plans" movie, which is being sponsored by P&G and Walmart will be showing on Fox TV on Saturday, January 8, at 8/7pm CST.

Up to this point, Sally Danville's life has played out just as she hoped it would. A beautiful and free-spirited musician, she and her fighter-pilot husband, Jason, live life on the go, free of domestic responsibilities. But with a single phone call from Child & Family Services case worker, Dorothy (Phylicia Rashad, The Cosby Show), she learns that things don't always go according to plan. Sally (Brooke White, American Idol) is met with the news that her best friend from college has died in a tragic accident on a Peace Corps mission and has named Sally the legal guardian of her four kids - 3 of them adopted from third-world countries. Now Sally and Jason (Joe Flanigan, Stargate Atlantis) must quickly learn to parent this instant family and help the kids deal with the culture clash of life in America. The story is both humorous and heartwarming, revealing how fulfilling life can be when you look beyond your own plans and invest in the lives of others.

I really enjoyed watching this movie. It is a good clean movie for the whole family to watch. The actors did a really good job and the music was wonderful, Brooke White is singing in the movie. The movie was engaging and fun to watch. It just goes to show you how important family is, even if your children are adopted, Love is what matters. I highly recommend you watch this movie. I give "Change of Plans" 4 stars out of 5. It is defiantly worth watching, so don't miss it.

In February you will be able to purchase the DVD which will be bundled with the soundtrack at your local Walmart.
